About Rob
Robert "Rob" Lagonia serves as the Town Supervisor of Austerlitz, New York, and Deputy Chairman of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. He previously served for many years as Austerlitz’s Town Judge, further demonstrating his commitment to fair and transparent local government. Robert is dedicated to preserving Austerlitz’s rural charm while delivering practical improvements that benefit everyone in the community.

Oversees town operations, budgets, infrastructure, and community services with a strong focus on transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Chairman of Public Safety, overseeing the Sheriff’s Office, 911 operations, EMS, probation, fire services, District Attorney, Public Defender, Conflict Defender, and Emergency Management.
Champions community engagement by encouraging open dialogue and welcoming resident feedback.
Served as Chairman of Health and Human Services during the COVID-19 pandemic; communicated daily with the community and led county-wide meetings to keep residents informed.
Helped set up local vaccine sites and worked tirelessly to source masks and supplies for residents.
Advocates for environmental sustainability through local climate initiatives and smart development policies.
Maintains one of the lowest property tax rates in Columbia County while investing in modern equipment, upgraded facilities, and safe roads.
Community Contributions
Modernized town highway equipment and constructed a beautiful new Town Hall and salt shed.
Improved town parks and added new recreational amenities like tennis and basketball courts and a new pavilion.
Worked hard and raised funding to ensure all community members had access to high-speed broadband; negotiated with the fiber company and saw the entire project through to completion.
Established committees on housing, ad hoc, conservation, zoning, and aging to address evolving community needs.
Serves as a steady voice for Austerlitz at the county level, working collaboratively with fellow supervisors to strengthen county-wide services.
